Diversity in Unity
What goes around, comes around...............with the recent events in India specially in the state of Maharashtra, we might be thinking where our country is headed................all lot has been said about people who are not even worth mentioning ...let alone giving them national importance..............but then as we all forget at times .....all NEWS CHANNELS are 24 hour channels....and all the things that happen in the lives of people( Kings or beggars ) is _____________ ____________.......well you guessed it right.....BREAKING NEWS............BREAKING NEWS.........the only thing i feel like breaking is the Television set...but alas can't even risk that........ i can't live without my daily dose of this crap....its an addiction...................
Now coming back to the events of 3rd February 2008...............why don't we play the ball game and blame our unfriendly neighbour for the mess .......seems to be a great idea...............no one will say anything for the fear of being branded anti-national.......why doesn't the government declare this offically that it was nothing more than trouble created by the usual suspects.............I feel that we as Indians need to not just respect our Unity in Diversity....but also our Diversity in Untiy.................what's wrong in that..........just try imagining that if in your workplace or school or college, everyone thought & acted like you........i am sure you would be in a bad mood all day long...as you couldn't diagree with a single soul.........( plz note that a lot of West based study groups have scientifically proven that Indians are argumentative).......it would be a shame.......we would keep cursing one & all for thinking like us...........where would creative & mind boggling thoughts & ideas come from......bcoz we are all alike......have same limitations & same insights into matters concerning others............I am sure you are shivering by now................
Well for a plain simple Indian like me, i shall always cherish 3rd February 2008 as the day i saw the Unity in Diversity as well as the Diversity in Unity............i was on a tour to the city of Mumbai............i was coming back to my home...........my bus was a state owned vehicle.....we were just about to enter a tunnel enroute, when the driver suddenly veered to the left.......i thought that maybe we have had a close shave......or avoided a collision with another vehicle..........but to my dismay, i was not able to act heroically & had nothing to do with a heroic resuce effort to save hurt or bleeding passengers........the door opens and almost 20 people enter the bus.......there are not enough seats for these extra passengers...on the other hand i am cursing the driver of deciding to make extra money for the state transport........now the bus continues to our destination.
Iam one of those guys who doesn't easily get interested in the matters of others or take notice of people, even if they are on my head......but then things change................an old lady is standing on the aisle......now you might be thinking, i being the writer will tell you that i offered her my seat....am sorry i did nothing like that...but kept ignoring her( Also the seat next to me was broken).......suddenly a young girl pops up & offers the lady her seat......this awakens the human in me....if another human can do it why can't i do it..........so me being me....i get up & offer my window seat to another lady who is travelling with her husband.......that is very unlike me...a lot of people who know me will vouch for it & claim that the sun had risen from the west on 3rd March 2008......i know its bad & your opinion of me is changing fast...but then everyone has a problem....n mine is strangers in an environment where i am also a traveller...i don't like chatting up with people while travelling or being nice & pally with them.....................By this time the chatter around me has given me crucial information like the misfortune these 20 people had when their bus broke down near the tunnel almost 3 hours ago.......
To add to the already rising list of passengers who are trying to make these people as comfortable as posible, in jumps the person sitting behind the broken seat,he with the help of my engineering mind fix the broken seat to last us till the end of the journey.......or if i may saw...i have added a few more rupees to the coffers of the state transport, by doing their job, albeit a temporary one.....atleast they maybe able to book that seat for a few more trips of that bus. Then i move on to the next level......i offer the recently repaired seat to the lady's husband.....he refuses....but i am relentless....(i have my motives in this...i want to stand next to the beautiful girl & maybe be her hero for the day)..in the end my perseverance pays & the gentlemen in question sits on the seat.............now this is just a story....well now comes the other part.... i would like to apologise to & ask for the forgiveness of people who thought that i was wrong in offering my seat, the one i paid for, to two strangers.........without asking them about their origin...or in short that part of India they come from.......were they from the North, East, South or the West...or to make matters worse Central India.......now i have 5 choices...........i am sorry to all those people who are hell bent on highlighting the Diversity........or the difference we have..............this reminds me of a few lines, which these people have never heard & may never be able to comprehend in their lives.....i don't know who has written them, so please don't sue me if you are the writer of these lines......
.'Differences of Habit & Language are nothing if our aims are identical & our hearts are open'
I am sure we have identical aims......( here i am talking about the average indian or the so called common man )...to give our loved ones a decent living & see ourselves & our fellow countrymen prosper.......and i am sure that our hearts are open.....we live in the land with a saying " Aatithi Devo Bhawa' i.e The guest is god....so i am sure our heart is big enough to accomodate our countrymen, our true brothers & sisters.so i shall fondly remember the day 3rd February 2008.........i saw diversity as well as the unity......
My advice to the people in power or post of influence...please follow the laws...it hurts at times...but it never kills......n maybe by having one code for all we can infuse the long forgotten patriotism that we had...............
Jai Hind!!!
